Maybe you used to have a beautifully organized set of skincare bottles, and plenty of time before work to shower, do your hair, and get dressed in blissful silence – while now you do 387 things at once and forget to shave for weeks at a time. If your a.m. self-care has fallen by the wayside since you became a parent, consider this a reminder that your hygiene and general well-being are important, too. Here are some of our favorite effective but non-fussy products to help you feel a little more put together.
Shower

A hair towel that stays on…
We love a good Turbie Twist, but if you’re hoping to upgrade, this is what you need. It looks like something you’d find in a fancy hotel, and is a great way to dry your hair quickly before styling. Plus, it’s hands-free, in case you maybe have lunches, snacks, and water bottles to pack while getting ready. ($55, Sephora)

A good old-fashioned bar soap for sensitive skin…
Boring, yes. But one Skimm’r with sensitive skin says that while she’s strayed from this bar soap before, she always comes back – it’s simple, reliable, and never makes her skin flare up. Use on the face and body for a clean but moisturized feel. ({{dynamicPrice}}, Amazon)

And an oldie-but-goodie dryer brush…
Iconic for a reason. While you can certainly find fancier hair dryers, this basic tool that dries as it brushes your hair will always be one of our favorites, helping your hair go from wet and bedraggled to heat-styled in literal minutes. ({{dynamicPrice}}, Amazon)

A moisturizing “stone” you’ll want to keep around…
When we first saw Kate McLeod’s bar moisturizer, we were a little confused about how it worked – but the simple and effective design quickly won us over. It’s essentially like a bar of soap that you soften and rub across your body, letting it melt into your skin post-shower. The original Daily Stone has a lovely rose, frankincense, and neroli scent, but we’ve also used the unscented Mama Stone during pregnancy and postpartum. ($45, Kate McLeod)

Moisturizer that’s been around since the 19th century…
Well, 1899, but that still counts. Invented to combat Vermont winters on a dairy farm, Bag Balm is still popular because its simple five-ingredient recipe really works to soothe dry skin on any part of the body. It also has no alcohol, parabens, phthalates, fragrance, or dye. ({{dynamicPrice}}, Amazon)

A face depuffing wand that works in minutes…
This little device has three heating settings and three cooling settings, so you can use it to depuff your face in the morning or soothe your skin before applying your skincare faves before bed. Our reviewer found it extremely easy to use – and it only takes six minutes total to make a real difference. ($149, Therabody)

A hyaluronic acid face moisturizer to use every day…
This “water drench” cream is well-named – it will keep your face feeling moisturized, but not oily or greasy. It relieves dryness immediately, and with no fragrance, it’s great for sensitive skin. ($54, Sephora)

One skincare step you definitely don’t want to skip…
That would be SPF for your face – a must in all seasons. We love these Supergoop formulas for everyday use, under, or sometimes even instead of makeup. The Glowscreen comes in four tinted shades, and gives your face a dewy shine, while the Mattescreen will give your skin a flatter, drier look. ($38, Supergoop)($40, Supergoop)

Disposable towels to keep your face clean…
With kids in the equation, sometimes it can be hard to get your hands on a clean towel in the mornings. These disposable facial towels are a good bet to keep your face clean and reduce irritation. Facial irritation, but also the other kind. ({{dynamicPrice}}, Amazon)

A skincare sample set so you can choose what to invest in…
We love this little set because it gives you a sense of six different Drunk Elephant products before you have to fully commit. It comes with a makeup remover, SPF, day serum, night serum, and more, all of which are vegan and cruelty free. ($76, Sephora)
Body-Care

Aluminum-free deodorant that works for up to 24 hours…
If you’ve been thinking about switching to a natural deodorant but never know which one to try (or if it’s even worth your time), we have a strong recommendation: Billie. This aluminum- and baking soda-free formula is light, non-sticky, and effective. It comes in five different fragrances, including Lavender Milk and Santal Blossom. ($9, Billie)

A mani prep set with everything you need…
You probably don’t have as much time to hit the nail salon as you used to, which means you may want to upgrade some of your supplies at home. Olive & June sells more extensive kits for everything from French manicures to gels, but if you want to start with just the basics, try this Target set with a clipper, buffer, file, brush, and nail polish remover. ($18.29, Target)

A dermaplaning tool for trimming facial hair…
Can’t get to your favorite waxing spot these days? Use this to remove hair on your eyebrows, lip, or anywhere else on your face – or just to exfoliate your skin every once a month or so. ({{dynamicPrice}}, Amazon)

Organic cotton menstrual pads…
When we made the switch to these chlorine-free cotton cover pads – for periods and other issues like postpartum bleeding – we never looked back. The top sheet is made from organic cotton grown in Texas, and they work well to contain bleeding without irritating your skin. ({{dynamicPrice}}, Amazon)

A body lotion that’s been popular for decades…
First made in the ‘80s, this paraben- and fragrance-free lotion may have been your mom or grandma’s favorite – and it’s still worth adding to your routine. Its formula, with cocoa butter and shea butter, helps keep all skin types soft and hydrated. ($60, Kiehl's)
