According to interior designer mom, this fall it’s all about creating a whimsical woodland vibe. Usually she tells me I “can’t have any more animals” featured in my decor (a valid point), but it’s hibernation season and we’re throwing caution to the wind. Go ahead, add a wicker owl to your tablescape and make your home as cozy as Peter Rabbit’s burrow (or just decorate with rabbits). It’s time to lean into fun again.

salad-tongs
Wayfair

A pair of eye-catching salad tongs…

This leans into the woodland aesthetic perfectly; they’re subtle, but a little kitschy in the best way possible. The acorns at the end are not only pretty, but also designed to make it easy to pick up lettuce, ice, you name it. Just like a squirrel to a nut. ($49.55, Wayfair)

One Kings Lane

An olive oil bottle that’s hunting-core chic…

This beautiful bottle is handcrafted in Italy with a colorful pheasant on it. It’ll bring a functional pop of color to your kitchen. The assorted wildlife cereal bowls are serious tableware goals. ($117, One Kings Lane)

cookbook
Amazon

A cookbook that’s almost too pretty to use…

There’s nothing like a cookbook that doubles as a coffee table book. This one will help you get creative with pizza night, from deep-dish to homemade focaccia. Grab one for yourself, then gift it to a fellow pizza lover, so you can try out recipes together. ({{dynamicPrice}}, Amazon)

feather-pillow
Amazon

A feather pillow that looks more expensive than it is…

My mom is seeing feathers everywhere this fall — from decorative trays to table runners. This pillow is a nice addition to your sofa, since the neutral colors will match your existing decor. It looks similar to designer versions, and you can leave it out all winter long. ({{dynamicPrice}}, Amazon)

pouf
Annie Selke

A pouf you can use inside or outside…

One thing about interior designer mom is she loves a multipurpose pouf. You can use it for extra seating or as a side table if you put a decorative tray on top. It’s made of durable, eco-friendly material that you can spot-clean if it gets dirty. ($211+, Annie Selke)

blanket
ChappyWrap

A blanket you’ll be using for years…

Our editors love a ChappyWrap blanket, especially in this earth-tone print with woodland creatures on it. It’s incredibly durable, won’t pill or leave fuzz everywhere, and you can throw it in the washing machine. ($150, ChappyWrap)

print
Wayfair

A print that’ll look good, no matter where you put it…

My mom has an amazing eye when it comes to art, so it wasn’t hard to believe that she found this gorgeous print. It’s a dreamy watercolor landscape in a classic gold frame that’ll fit in any room. She also loves the other numbered landscapes by this art group, like this one and this one. ($287.50, Wayfair)

ice-bucket
Perigold

A rattan ice bucket for every season…

The rattan trend is still going strong, and it’s not just for summer decor. This ice bucket gives a natural feel to a bar cart and will keep wine chilled while you wait to serve. The matching tongs are the icing on the cake. ($120, Perigold)

floral-sculptures
Ballard Designs

A set of handmade floral sculptures…

Bunny Williams is one of my mom’s favorite designers, and these hand-painted sculptures are part of her collection. She suggests grouping them on a table or mantel. In Bunny we trust. ($40.79, Ballard Designs)

sheet-set
Anthropologie

A printed sheet set to make your bed more whimsical…

Lately I’ve been obsessed with printed sheets; it’s a fun little surprise when you pull back the comforter. Normally I adhere to strictly all-white bedding, but these dog sheets are so cute and neutral enough so they don’t stick out too much. They’re also crisp, just how I like them. ($48+, Anthropologie)

Buy it
lamp
Perigold

A table lamp that looks like a piece of pottery…

This lamp will lend a soft glow to any room, while the base will bring texture to your space. It would look great on a nightstand or a desk in an office. My mom is partial to the green, but the white is lovely, too. ($299, Perigold)

Buy it
bench
Etsy

A handmade bench for a rustic touch…

Put this bench at the end of the bed or in the entryway and it’ll bring a touch of the outside in. It's made to look distressed, and you can choose how the wood is stained to give it exactly the feel you want. ($139.99+, ThorWoods via Etsy)

Buy it
headboard
Birch Lane

A headboard that’ll completely change the look of your bedroom…

If you’re noticing your bedroom is mainly white, the best way to add some depth is with a wood accent. This headboard is made of wood, woven rattan, and wicker and has an interesting shape that draws the eye. It’ll give a cozy cottage feel to the room. ($399, Birch Lane)

Buy it
carafe
Neiman Marcus

A carafe that’s like a little work of art…

Life’s too short for a boring pitcher. Keep your ice water in this mouth-blown glass carafe that says, “oh, this old thing?” when you offer your guests a refill. The best part is that it’s dishwasher-safe. ($82.50, Neiman Marcus)
