Pitcher Perfect by Tessa Bailey
Avon

Pitcher Perfect by Tessa Bailey (September 9)

“As our resident Tessa Bailey connoisseur, I’m happy to report that Pitcher Perfect has officially entered my personal favorite Top 5 Tessa Bailey books. The fourth installment of her sports romance series, this follows Robbie Corrigan — a hockey rookie with golden retriever boyfriend energy — and Skylar Paige, a type-A college softball pitcher. While I don't typically prioritize character development in the romance genre, I appreciate that Bailey thoughtfully crafted the genuine evolution of feelings over insta-lust. Some tropes you need to know: opposites attract, fake dating, and he falls first, extremely hard. Don’t miss this one.” —Caroline Goldstein

Fawning by Dr. Ingrid Clayton

Fawning by Dr. Ingrid Clayton (September 9)

“You might be familiar with the three F’s of trauma responses: fight, flight, or freeze. But in this book, Dr. Ingrid Clayton, a clinical psychologist and expert in complex trauma recovery, explores an equally powerful, but often misunderstood, fourth F: fawning, a phenomenon in which people draw closer to people or situations that cause them pain. It can show up in situations like codependency, people-pleasing, and a compulsion to befriend (or romantically pursue) those you don’t really like to earn their approval. Not only does Dr. Clayton unpack why and how fawning manifests in various situations, but she also explains how to release ourselves from this kind of behavior.” —Caroline Goldstein

Good Things by Samin Nosrat (September 16)

“The legend behind Salt, Fat, Acid, Heat has yet another cookbook out, and I will be turning to this for all my cozy fall meals. On top of Nosrat being one of the most likeable personalities on the internet I’ve ever encountered, her recipes are satiating, delicious, and easy to follow. I’m personally excited about the one-bowl chocolate cake and an updated version of her roast chicken recipe.” —Margo Ghertner

Exiles by Mason Coile (September 16)
G.P. Putnam's Sons

Exiles by Mason Coile (September 16)

“In my house, Halloween begins the minute Labor Day ends. That also means I start in on my Spooky Reads TBR, beginning with this forthcoming release from Mason Coile — the author of William, one of my favorite horror reads from last year that continues to live rent-free in my head. This slim, propulsive read follows the first human crew to colonize Mars — but when they reach the planet, they find that the robots who’d been sent earlier to prep the site have become dangerously sentient and allied against the human newcomers. A blend of locked-room mystery, whodunnit, sci-fi, and good, old-fashioned jump-scare horror, this is the kind of thing you read in a single sitting then lose sleep over for days.” —Caroline Goldstein

107 Days by Kamala Harris (September 23)

“If you've found yourself wondering how the hell Vice President Kamala Harris pulled together a full presidential campaign in 107 days, this is the book for you. For the first time, she shares the complete story with vulnerability and confidence, all while reading like a bingeable novel. Count me in.” —Margo Ghertner

Heart the Lover by Lily King
Grove Press

Heart the Lover by Lily King (September 30)

“Lily King is an auto-buy author for me (I never stop thinking about her novel Writers & Lovers). In her newest novel, an unnamed writer tells the story of her college love triangle and how it lingers throughout her adult life. It’s gorgeous, addicting, and moving, and it’s the quintessential fall book” —Margo Ghertner

October

Mate by Ali Hazelwood
Berkley

Mate by Ali Hazelwood (October 7)

“Next up on my pre-Halloween TBR is this follow-up to Bride, which marked Ali Hazelwood’s first foray into romantasy. I’ve been impatiently waiting for this since I devoured Bride two years ago. Though this isn’t a sequel to Bride, it takes place in the same universe and promises a similarly compelling (and very hot) werewolf romance, written with Hazelwood’s signature snark. Serena Paris, the first human-were hybrid, thought that revealing her true identity could unite the warring species. Instead, it makes her a target — and Koen Alexander, a powerful were Alpha, might be her only shot at protection. I won’t say no to a paranormal marriage of convenience.” —Caroline Goldstein

It Girl by Marisa Meltzer
Atria Books

It Girl by Marisa Meltzer (October 7)

“I gobbled up Meltzer’s book on Glossier a couple of years ago, and this time, she’s back with in-depth reporting on the original influencer and 'it girl,' Jane Birkin. She covers everything from Birkin’s early life to her up-and-down relationship with actor Serge Gainsbourg, along with the story behind how she became tied to one of the most iconic handbags in fashion history. If you’re looking for a history book that won’t put you to sleep, try this one.” —Margo Ghertner

Heartsick by Kristina Forest
Kokila

Heartsick by Kristina Forest (October 7)

“I will read everything Kristina Forest writes, including this new YA novel that’s set to come out in October. I can confirm that this one is YA that doesn’t read overly youthful. Instead, it’s entertaining and requires no thought to binge. Margot and Isaac are high school sweethearts currently in the midst of a breakup. When Margot starts interning at Healing Hearts Inc., a Theranos-like company that claims to heal broken hearts with a pill, she notices something is off. As she takes it upon herself to uncover what’s actually going wrong, she turns to Isaac, her ex, for help. This one was way twistier than I expected, and it had me hooked.” —Margo Ghertner

Year of Yes: 10th Anniversary Edition by Shonda Rhimes
S&S/ Marysue Rucci Books

Year of Yes: 10th Anniversary Edition by Shonda Rhimes (October 14)

“I stand on business when I say that Year of Yes is one of the best celebrity books of all time. Legendary TV producer Shonda Rhimes (creator of the Olivia Pope) chronicles what it was like for her to say yes to pretty much everything for a year and how it changed her life for the better. It was originally published in 2015 (which is when I first read it), and a decade later, Simon & Schuster is bringing it back in a stunning hard cover edition with new chapters. I’ll definitely re-read this come fall, and if you haven’t read it before, this is the perfect time to pick it up.” —Margo Ghertner

Wreck by Catherine Newman
Harper

Wreck by Catherine Newman (October 28)

“I didn’t know I needed a sequel to Sandwich until the news of this release hit my inbox, and boy am I overjoyed. I read this book at the tail end of the summer, and while it’s hard to describe what actually happens, I did find Newman’s chapters and vignettes heartwarming, gripping, and enjoyable to read. It follows Rocky and her hilariously sweet family as they come to terms with a tragic accident in their neighborhood. You’ll understand the magic once you read it. Trust me.” —Margo Ghertner
