If boots were made for walking, then these sneakers were definitely made for traveling. We looked everywhere (and we mean everywhere) for shoes that go from day to night, won’t weigh down your checked bags, and provide all-day comfort and support — both in the air and on the ground.
Looking for more affordable, stylish clothes? Here’s what to wear when working, traveling, and playing — and picks for your kids, too.

A classic white sneaker with extra elevation…
We’ve always been fans of Dr. Scholl’s, but these platform sneakers are our latest obsession. They’ve got a versatile design on the outside, while packing major comfort on the inside. The cushioned insole uses antimicrobial, anti-odor technology for extra-long walking days. Also love that the water-resistant canvas material, toe box, and lining are made from recycled bottles. ($59.99, DSW)

Sneakers you can wear out to a nice dinner…
These Dolce Vita sneakers come in 29 unique color combinations, including two with ribbon laces for a truly elevated feel. They have a thick sole and a cushioned footbed, so you won’t sacrifice comfort for style. ($79.90, Zappos)

Knit sneakers you can slip on and off…
No muss, no fuss, just a pair of really comfortable slip-ons from FitFlop. They’re laceless with a soft, stretchy upper lip. The interior sole has a new injected air-foam so you’ll feel like you’re walking on clouds — even if there’s a long hike on your itinerary. ($85, Zappos)

A black-and-white staple sneaker…
Behold: the LBD of lace-ups. The Adidas Court Sneakers won’t just come in handy for every type of vacation, they’re timeless enough to last you season after season. The soccer-inspired design keeps it casual, yet functional. These are the shoes we reach for when we want to dress down a dress or a skirt. ($64.99, DSW)

A comfortable pair with a lot of flair…
If you want to add a pop of color to any look in your suitcase, these Gola Tornado sneakers are your answer. The eye-catching color combos range from sea green and purple to sapphire and pink, so you can keep the rest of your accessories to a minimum. One editor claims these are more comfortable than her Adidas Sambas. Fighting words, but she stands by them. ($100+, Free People)

A sneaker that will hold up in the hotel gym…
These upgraded On sneakers provide the ultimate comfort for a long travel day, but they'll also come in handy if you're planning to work out on your vacation. While they do have laces, they're engineered to work as slip-ons, so you won't have to worry about retying them after you go through airport security. ($160, On)

A fan-fave casual sneaker…
These designer-inspired sneakers have been a Skimm’r favorite over the past few months, and we can see why. They’re under $25 (though they look much more expensive), and have a thick, comfortable sole. They also come in an impressive range of colors, from neutrals to brights. ($22.98, Walmart)

A must-have option if you’ll be walking nonstop…
Some cities are better seen on foot. These breezy Tree Runners from Allbirds will keep your feet fresh, no matter how many steps you log, thanks to their breathable mesh material. They’re also machine-washable. Sweaty feet are no match for these. ($100, Allbirds)

A pair that needs no introduction…
Just like us, these childhood favorites have aged with grace. These updated Keds have extra padding under the heel and a new mesh material that’s softer than the originals. They still have the same pre-broken-in feel and classic all-white design we know and love, which makes them a great addition to any travel capsule wardrobe. ($59.95, Keds)

Trendy sneakers with a retro feel…
These chunky, ‘90s-inspired sneakers have a Gen-Z vibe that’s still easy on our millennial knees. They come in both neutral and bright colors and look great with a loose pant and casual top — aka the perfect travel outfit. ($130, SeaVees)

Sandals that feel like sneakers…
If you’re headed somewhere warm and want to nix the socks for a day or two, you’ll love these Sorel sandals. Their just-over-two-inch platform sole gives you just enough height to pair with dresses, but you’ll still feel stable for daytime excursions. And who doesn’t appreciate ae Velcro strap? ($81+, Zappos)
