Happy Wednesday. However, I’m feeling less happy and more concerned after reading about the penis-filler boom. (Yeah, you read that right.) Also taking over my thoughts are foamy pee and “podophobia.” But I guess I should be less judgy. So I’ll turn to piglet yoga, HILIT workouts, and the perfect “everything shower” to find my joy. I’m a simple gal.

we have to talk about…

Where Are All the Asian Therapists?
Mental health stigmas, finances, and the model minority myth are well-known barriers between mental health care and Asian Americans. But one that’s often overlooked is the lack of APIDA representation in the profession itself: Only 5% of the psychology workforce identify as Asian (which, reminder, includes over 20 ethnicities), versus 86% who identify as white.
Why the gap?
The same factors that make Asian Americans three times less likely to seek mental health treatment may also stop them from pursuing careers in the field, says Sahaj Kohli, therapist and founder of Brown Girl Therapy. “There’s a lot of pressure that many Asian Americans feel about what academic or educational careers are expected of them,” she says. When going to therapy can feel like a betrayal of cultural values, making a career out of it can be even harder.
But I want a therapist who gets it.
We hear you. “Eastern values are often very diametrically opposed to the Western American values that we live in,” says Kohli. Like collectivism, which non-APIDA therapists might not be aware of — or know how to help you navigate. “Having a provider who can integrate that into their work is so important,” says Kohli.
Beyond that, having a culturally-informed therapist can have a profound impact on your mental health. Asian American patients report higher satisfaction with their care when treated by someone who shares their background. And it’s not exactly productive spending your therapy session explaining fundamental cultural concepts rather than doing “really grueling work that is therapy and self-actualization,” says Kohli.
Your move
Normalizing mental health care will ultimately help increase APIDA representation in the field and encourage more people to get the care they need, says Kohli. In the meantime, these resources can help you find therapists who share your identity:
Don’t be afraid to interview them to ensure they’re a fit. Kohli and Zyril Green, LMFT, suggest asking:
Have you ever worked with someone who shares my identity?
Have you ever helped someone with similar struggles to mine?
In what ways do you integrate cultural humility into treatment?

I can’t orgasm during penetrative sex. Any advice?
FEATURED EXPERT:

Aline Zoldbrod, PhD
Licensed psychologist and certified sex therapist
Explore your body and source(s) of pleasure. “How each of us experiences sexual pleasure is our own special and unique recipe,” says Zoldbrod. And there’s nothing wrong with your sex life if you don’t orgasm every time, she adds. Use sites like OMGYES to explore what gets you going.
And don’t forget to stimulate your clitoris. “At least three-quarters of women never reach orgasm from [penetration] alone — we need extra help,” says Zoldbrod. Try using hands, mouths, or toys for extra stimulation.
summer sun
PSA: There are over 330 days of sun in Scottsdale every year. If that doesn’t make you want to put in your PTO request this second, maybe these almost-too-good-to-be-true hotel deals will. This summer, you can book a stay at one of Scottsdale’s world-renowned luxury resorts for under $140 a night. Then fill your days with epic pool parties, family-friendly water parks, relaxing spa treatments, and discounted tee times — all while you take in the sprawling desert views. smart follow

Name: Victoria Fu and Gloria Lu, skincare chemists
Why we follow: The “smoke and mirrors of skincare marketing,” as Fu puts it, make reading product ingredients confusing (to say the least). That’s why she and Lu demystify, debunk, and debrief on all things skincare — in a way that’s easy to understand and apply to your life. Don’t miss round two of their #30for30Sunscreen series, where they test 30 new sunscreens using a UV camera. (Because despite what Gen Z thinks, we need sunscreen.) It starts on June 10.
