Three things to know: Biden's interview, the UK's election, and Hurricane Beryl.

Happy Fourth of July. Skimm HQ is taking a well-deserved break today, but we always want to keep you informed. So the Daily Skimm team is bringing you three things to know to start your day. Then we, the Skimm Shopping editors, are taking over to share the best of the Fourth of July sales happening now. I personally treat sales as an opportunity to experiment with aesthetics (and entire personalities) I want to try — like this glittery lip gloss to embrace my inner Brat Girl and a pair of braided slides so I can become the chic desert aunt I aspire to be. If you’re in the anti-trend camp (love that for you), now’s a great time to stock up on basics, like some nicer-than-usual tanks and summer-weight jeans. "Corporate rave" dressing may come and go, but regular, schmegular outfits are forever.

Three things to know

  • Tomorrow, President Joe Biden will give his first interview since his shaky debate performance to ABC News. The 81-year-old president has had a challenging week, with questions about his mental fitness taking center stage and reports of panic within his party. Yesterday, Biden met with Democratic governors at the White House to rally support. However, some lawmakers are not falling in line, as Rep. Lloyd Doggett (D-TX) and Rep. Raúl Grijalva (D-AZ) became the first congressional Democrats to call for Biden to withdraw from the race. Other Dems have indicated support for Vice President Kamala Harris at the top of the ticket should Biden step aside.

  • The United Kingdom is holding its first election in five years today. Polls indicate that British voters are likely to oust the Conservative Party government after its 14-year rule in favor of the center-left Labour Party. If that happens, the UK elections will be an outlier among the far-right insurgences sweeping across Europe.

  • Hurricane Beryl brushed past Jamaica's coast yesterday, after devastating the Caribbean islands of Grenada and St. Vincent and the Grenadines, where locals report virtually everyone is now homeless. Beryl, the earliest hurricane on record to reach Category 5 status, is giving forecasters a glimpse of what lies ahead, as they've predicted a highly active and devastating hurricane season.

“As I learned from my professional home organizer cousin, a stylish storage situation makes a huge difference in your home’s overall aesthetic. I’ll be putting this woven hyacinth basket to use as a catchall for my dog’s toys in the living room — and since it’s so affordable, I might grab another one to store my off-season shoes.” -Caroline Goldstein

“I’ve been in desperate need of some new pillows for my bed, but I hate buying them full-price. For Fourth of July, Casper is offering 20% off pillows, so you better believe I’m pre-adding a few to cart. I highly rec the Original. It’s soft enough to be moldable, with solid support so I don’t wake up with any neck pain. It’s the coziest pillow I’ve tried in years.” –Alexandra Napoli

“I saw our editor Caroline call this glowy sunscreen her favorite, so I’m buying this glowy sunscreen. I’m a sensitive-skinned gal as well, so it’s nice to see a tinted version that’s completely mineral. Fully expecting this to become my next holy grail. Don’t forget to use code SUNNY when you check out.” –Martha Upton

“Ban.do is one of my favorite places to stock up on gifts, so I’m planning to take advantage of their 25% off sitewide sale for my friends with September birthdays. I’m obsessed with the design of this vase and this meal planner notepad.” –Margo Ghertner

can this wireless bra fix my life by tomorrow?
eby balconette bra
EBY

EBY Ultimate All Day Balconette Bra

Honestly…it might. This is the bra that made a believer out of one editor who’d previously sworn off “real” bras. The secret is in its construction, which is completely wireless, seamless, and made of a second-skin-like material that molds to the shape of your chest and ribcage. A touch of cushy padding at the bottom creates lift, without that excessively unnatural look of old-school push-up bras. She, for one, will be taking advantage of EBY’s 40% off sale today. If you’ve been struggling on the bra front, you should, too.

what's the summer robe we like again?

Brooklinen

Brooklinen Waffle Robe

Name a better feeling than having time to lounge in your robe before getting ready. It doesn’t happen often, but when it does, it’s good to be prepared with the perfect summer robe. Much like summer jeans and dresses, it has to be lightweight, breathable, and keep you from feeling like you need a shower after your shower. This Brooklinen version (which recently came back in stock) is everything you could hope for. It’s made of Turkish cotton with a honeycomb texture that soaks up water and dries faster. It’s also prewashed, so it’ll feel like you’ve been wearing it for years right out of the box. When me-time shows up, you’ll be ready.
